Batch Recipes & Sub-recipes
Two toggles at the top of every recipe overview unlock more advanced ways to work: Batch for recipes you make in bulk and portion out, and Sub-recipe for components like sauces and sides that go inside other recipes. You'll also find shelf-life and document fields here for products you label and sell.
Batch recipes
Turn on Batch when you make a recipe in bulk rather than one portion at a time. Tell Prepsheets how many portions the batch yields and it divides everything — cost, calories, weight — by that number to give you accurate per-portion figures, while the selling price stays per portion. Handy for anything you cook once and serve many times.
Sub-recipes
Turn on Sub-recipe for a component you make separately and use inside other dishes — a sauce, a dressing, or a side like mashed potato. Once a recipe is marked as a sub-recipe, you can drop it into your main recipes (search the Sub-recipes tab in Add Ingredient), while keeping the sub-recipe maintained in one place. Update the sauce once and every dish that uses it updates too.
Shelf life & documents for labelled products
If a recipe is something you sell to-go or produce for multiple sites, use the Shelf Life fields and the Documents area on the recipe to attach your shelf-life testing document and record the tested values. These feed your labelling so your food-to-go labels carry the right dates.
